Manufacturing Mexico – Adjusting To The Culture

When preparing to do business in a foreign country, you will obviously take the time to research Federal, State and Local laws pertaining to Environmental regulations, Tax laws, any other matter which would affect you while operating a business as a foreign corporation. This is simply common sense, good business practice. However, there is another area of concern which might be overlooked. If you intend to operate a business in manufacturing Mexico, it is important you learn as much as possible about the local culture, how workers in that area of Mexico perform on the job. If, for example, you are used to doing business on the Eastern coast of the U.S., you would be accustomed to a naturally occurring fast-paced work environment. In rural Mexico, however, it is quite the opposite.
As a part of manufacturing Mexico, you must never make assumptions about your workers. Should your employees not produce at the level you feel they should, do not assume it is because they are incapable. First of all, look at your entire work force. Evaluate their overall performance, paying close attention to the obvious areas of contention. Meet with your supervisory staff, you may need to adjust the ways you relate to your workers.
